Citalopram and Alcohol Dangers

Millions of people have depression and they resort to various ways on how to treat it. Some pay a visit to psychiatrists or psychologists and discuss with them what cause these negative feelings. For women, they would be allowed one drink a day, while men can drink two although it will depend on the alcoholic content of the drink. In some cases though, people have to be educated on the effects of citalopram because it can affect a person when he is operating a machine or driving any type of vehicle. Still, a mixture of citalopram and alcohol is not for everyone because each individual may have different situations and their doctors know what is best for them.

There has to be constant communication between doctors and health care providers with their patients in regard to taking alcohol and citalopram because this may affect their health. One of the worst things that can happen when one is taking citalopram and alcohol is that a person may think of killing himself, so he or she must inform a doctor about this. Be as it may, the secret to ingesting citalopram and alcohol is simply moderation and some studies suggest that there would be no problems when they are taken at the same time.

On the other hand, excessive alcohol intake will significantly lessen the effectiveness of citalopram. In this case, citalopram and alcohol do not mix because the former is a medication while the latter depresses the central nervous system. For the drug to work, patients should practice discipline as well to avoid any hassles. For now, there is no evidence to support the claims that citalopram with alcohol together can affect one’s psychomotor functions even if that person drinks moderately. Additionally, studies are still being made if citalopram and alcohol can affect the liver’s function of metabolizing the drug. Only time will tell if these concerns are unfounded or not.
